Review: Looking for a blues guitarist in the tradition of Jimi Hendrix? Eddie Turner is probably a good bet!

Turner was born in Cuba, raised in Chicago and educated in Colorado. The young guitarist played with a number of Colorado regional bands including The Immortal Nightflames, the first punk/r&b outfit in the area. From there he gigged with Mother Earth, Tracy Nelson and the 4-Nikators. The latter group was recognized for its trademark blend of Motown, soul and rock. Bluesman Otis Taylor was also a member of that band and invited Eddie Turner to record with his band on two NorthernBlues albums in recent years.

Turner received his first big break when he had the opportunity to join the tremendously successful band Zephyr. David and Candy Givens took the band on tour, sharing the stage with just about every big name in the world of rock. Sadly, Candy Givens passed away suddenly in 1984.

Turner took a hiatus from music for almost eleven years when he returned to the stage, taking an offer from the Ron Miles band. Since then, he has recorded with the Erica Brown Band and the aforementioned Otis Taylor.

Rise finds Eddie Turner reunited with friends David Givens, Anna Givens and Kenny Passarelli. Passarelli, who produced the new CD, has recorded with the likes of Elton John, Freddie King, Manassas, Stephen Stills and Joe Walsh.

All songs on Rise are Turner originals and collaborations with the exception of The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King’s Play It Cool and Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s Gangster Of Love.

Urban blues fans will revel in the atmosphere generated by Eddie Turner’s smokin’ guitar licks. Crank up the volume!

Tracks: Rise; Ask Myself Why; The River; The Wind Cries Mary; Resurrection; It’s Me; Gangster Of Love; Sin; Play It Cool; Privileged Life; Confusion Illusion; Secret.
